Meet Your Instructors
I am originally from Tucson, Arizona. Now, I live in Northern Ireland with my husband, our son (born Sept 2015) and daughter (born April 2018).
I first stepped onto a yoga mat in a Bikram Studio in 2007 looking for a bit of fitness and a way to de-stress. It wasn’t until I moved to Belfast that my practice opened to other styles. Now, I love all yoga. It keeps me connected: to my breath, to this moment, to a community. I love to share my passion for yoga with everyone. I try to encourage people in my classes to approach their practice with curiosity and playfulness, to find the edge and discover something new about themselves, to bring them back to themselves and remind them that we are already always enough.
Being back in a hot box at Urban Soul feels like a homecoming for me as my personal practice is a hot one.
I completed my Vinyasa Flow TT with Flow Studio Belfast in March 2017 and before that I completed my Hatha Yoga, Pregnancy Yoga, and Mum and Baby Yoga TT with YogaBellies Glasgow in March 2013. I have been teaching yoga since May 2013 and my teaching and practice are always evolving. I teach both heated and non heated Vinyasa Flow, Pregnancy Yoga, and Mum and Baby Yoga.

Jayne started to practice Bikram yoga in 2007 in Belfast. After a few months she was hooked! She certified as a Bikram Yoga teacher (2009) and Hot Pilates HIIT teacher
(2019). She is absolutely passionate about the mental and physical benefits of
practicing in heat. In her words, ‘ nothing else compares’.
Jayne loves teaching a strong class but offers variations on everything to ensure an inclusive practice for everyone.
Jayne has taught in her own studio 2014-2018 and also over the years since 2009
in Dublin, London and San Diego amongst others.
These days Jayne enjoys her business ventures, London weekends (always with a
hot yoga practice) and you will see her as a student on the mat at Urban Soul as
often as possible.

My relationship with yoga started as a child with my Dad’s book 'Yoga and Health' by Selvarajan Yesudian and Elisabeth Haich. I have always enjoyed the physical practice of yoga - I like the way yoga makes me feel. Over the past 30 years I've practiced various different types of yoga, in various studios, in various parts of the world but the reason I do yoga always comes back to the same thing: I like how it makes me feel. I love that I can practice a different style, depending how I feel that particular day.
It felt natural that I would complete yoga teacher training. Since my initial Fierce Grace 200 hour TT I have completed more specialist training in yoga therapy skills for post traumatic stress disorder, yoga for anxiety and yoga therapy skills for cancer care and treatment. I have also completed 100 hours of Yin Yoga training and Reiki level 1. I bring my experience and training to my teaching and am there to guide you to find what feels right for your body, mind and breath that particular day.

where you can challenge yourself while also being kind to your body.

Meet Your Instructors
I first began practising yoga almost a decade ago when studying and living in Amsterdam. I had no idea that yoga would come to be such an integral part of my life.
Through my practice, I began to notice improvements in my life both on and off the mat. Rolling out my mat became a ritual of coming home to my self, of inviting stillness, of connecting with my breath and gently listening to the subtle cues of my body over and over again.
My background is in education and I am a trained teacher. The art of teaching is my bedrock. My yoga classes are inherently person centred, inclusive and responsive to the needs in the room.
I completed my 200hr Yoga TT here in Belfast with Yoga Quarter last summer and it has been an absolute joy to teach classes since. Since then I have trained in teaching Restorative and Trauma Informed yoga and I am currently training for my 100hr Yin. I am constantly seeking to improve my skill set to help support students.
My intention for my classes is always to create a safe and welcoming environment that encourages you to meet your body with compassion and a sense of playful curiosity. To notice the sensations your body communicates to you and to move mindfully from that place.
I look forward to practising with you soon.
See you on the mat,
Shannon ✨🧘♀️

Sport, exercise and overall movement has always been a core part of my life. Growing up my weeks were filled with dance and athletics and as I grew out of certain hobbies I discovered new ones , Reformer Pilates being one, which lead me to where I am now. While living in New Zealand, I travelled to Australia to do my training and never looked back. I love the fluidity and precision that can be found throughout a class and the choreography around fundamental exercises that allow you to be continually challenged. Being a part of other people’s journeys, guiding their progression and watching their confidence grow in their own bodies is a huge part of why I love what I do.

Can’t wait to share more of this journey with you all, both on and off the mat!

Urban Reviews
We recommend purchasing our new client offer as a way to try out a variety of classes.
Practicing in a hot room will get you hooked!
The heat creates an exhilarating detoxifying sweat, flushing toxins from your blood and metabolic waste from your muscles. Blood flow is increased and fresh oxygen is delivered to the muscles, joints, organs and glands. Practicing in an environment with Far Infrared heat takes Yoga classes to a new level. You will leave feeling euphoric and cleansed!
It couldn’t be more right for you! There is a common misconception that yoga is only for flexible people. Yoga isn’t about how flexible you are right now; it’s about increasing your range of motion so that you can continue to be strong and mobile in the future. If you’re not flexible, the benefits of doing Yoga in Far Infrared Heat are tremendous. The internal heat that your body generates along with the infrared penetration will help make those short, tight muscles long, strong and pliable.
A lot of people often have a negative reaction when they initially hear of exercising in the heat, but once they try it, they’re hooked. We recommend coming to a minimum of 5 classes in a two week period so that you can get the full experience as the heat sometimes takes a little getting used to. We heat the studio with Far Infrared Panels and it is much different than most other yoga studios! Classes are heated to between 35 – 42 degrees depending on the class.
To get the most benefit we recommend (especially in the beginning) that you come as much as you can. If you can come 3-4 times a week initially, you will see marked improvements in your overall well-being as well as notable physical changes.
Your teacher will set up the exercises and then circulate the room, correcting form to help you get the most out of your time. The room is HOT, be prepared to sweat and have an intense class. For the more dynamic classes, it is normal to experience a light-headed, nauseous and/or dizzy feeling the first few times in the room. Should you feel any of the above, we suggest lying down on your mat, take a few deep breathes to slow down and reconnect.
No. Bikram Yoga is just one style of hot yoga. Bikram is a practice of 26 postures done in a specific sequence in a strict environment. Our hot classes combine the best elements from many different styles of yoga in order to give your mind and body the best workout possible!
At Urban Soul we believe in creating a fun community based environment that awakens the mind, body, and spirit.
It is estimated that you can burn between 600-1200 calories in a 60 -75 minute heated workout. The number of calories each person burns will vary based on age, weight, gender, and the intensity of the workout.
At Urban Soul we believe in creating a fun community based environment that awakens the mind, body, and spirit.
Although we strongly believe in the spiritual and mental benefits of Yoga, you won’t find this forced on you in our studio. We want to create a welcoming environment where all realms of spirituality are embraced. The goal of Yoga is to quiet the distractions of the mind. With our classes, the mind and body relax so that you can relieve stress and achieve clarity and balance. What you do with that increased clarity is up to you.
At Urban Soul we believe in creating a fun community based environment that awakens the mind, body, and spirit.
Absolutely, we are a studio for everyone and we offer a variety of awesome classes that men will love! If you are an athlete, runner, or golfer – yoga is a great complement and can help you improve!
At Urban Soul we believe in creating a fun community based environment that awakens the mind, body, and spirit.
Generally speaking, Yoga is great for people with skeletal and joint issues if you listen to your body and work to your own abilities. The combination of the Far Infrared heat and postures will help to strengthen the muscles around your bones and joints to give you more support and help in healing your body. As always, if you have any concerns please consult with your GP.
At Urban Soul we believe in creating a fun community based environment that awakens the mind, body, and spirit.
